Making Their Mark: Hinds County and Rankin County

The historical marker for Hinds County and Rankin County will honor 18 African American men elected to the legislature in the 19th century. Eventually, this page will include the marker text and photo along with information and photos related to the community event to be held in Jackson.

Current status (March 31, 2026): approved by county Board of Supervisors, application submitted to Department of Archives and History for approval at summer board meeting
