James A. Shorter, Jr. (Hinds County)

State House: 1882-1883

Born: c. 1842 in Virginia

Farmer and teacher. Graduate of Tougaloo. Served on the board of registrars for Hinds County in the early 1870s. Son of African Methodist Episcopal bishop James Alexander Shorter. Married Reba F. Young in 1877 and is listed with her on the 1880 census in Dry Grove, Hinds County. He died sometime before 1898 when Reba remarried.
