Joseph E. Monroe (Coahoma County)

State House: 1874-1877

Born: c. 1830 in Kentucky

Farmer. Joined Company A, 6th Regiment U. S. Colored Heavy Artillery at Natchez in 1863 and served until 1866, when he mustered out as a Sergeant. Appointed to be a county election commissioner in 1881. Officer in the Colored Knights of Pythias. Listed on the 1870 and 1880 census in Coahoma County with wife Jane and two children; Jane was a widow on the 1900 census.
