George William Butler (Sharkey County)

One of the last Black legislators in Mississippi until the late 1960s. According to Freedman’s Bank records dated 1870 in Vicksburg, his parents were Eugene and Frances, and he had siblings named Eugene and Maggie. Butler appears on the 1900 and 1910 census in Sharkey County, living with his mother.
