Samuel A. Sanderlin (Washington/Issaquena Counties)

Born: May 1850 in Ohio
Death: 1925 in Sharkey County, MS

Born free in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Holland Munroe Sanderlin (1823-1865) and Susan Bradley (m. 1846). Listed with his family on the 1860 and 1870 censuses in Cincinnati. His job as a young man on the 1870 census was “porter on railroad.”

At some point in the 1870s, he moved to Mississippi. According to the 1876  Mississippi House Journal, he was a teacher. He was listed as a farmer with wife Salena Williams and children on the 1900 census in Issaquena County and on the 1880, 1910, and 1920 census in Sharkey County, where he died in 1925.

Salena was living with daughter Elizabeth in Elmira, NY on the 1940 census, and she died in that city on February 2, 1948.
