Committee to draft new Columbus city charter

From the minute book of the Columbus Board of Aldermen:

Meeting of the Columbus Board of Aldermen held on December 27, 1871

Resolved That a committie of Two members of this Board with the present Mayor of the City as Chairman, be appointed, to draft a new charter for the City embodying the esential features of the present charter where consistant with the Constitution and laws and such new powers as may be deemed necessary providing the same shall be done at an expence not exceeding one hundred Dollars to be paid the Chairman of the Committie who shall do the work required to be submitted to the other members of the Committie and approved by them – whereupon George W VanHook & R Gleed were appointed as said committie.
