Born: c. 1851 in Vicksburg, MS
Died: May 28, 1892 in Vicksburg, MS

Son of Elizabeth Reddick. According to probate records, had siblings named Albert Webster and Kate Webster Ells. Attended and was an assistant instructor at Alcorn University, where he won the gold medal for deportment and scholarship in 1873. Became cotton-weigher for the city of Vicksburg in 1872. Had an account in the Freedman’s Bank in 1873. Administered his mother’s estate (many pages of documents available on Ancestry.com) in 1879. I have been unable to locate Coates on the 1870 or 1880 census. Death date from his probate file, which contains many pages of documents, also available on Ancestry.com.
