Gray C. Selby

Gray C. Selby (Marshall County)

State House: 1880-1881

Born: September 22, 1852 in Holly Springs, MS

Farmer and teacher. Appears on the 1870 and 1880 census in Holly Springs. In 1880, he was working for a 70-year-old white woman named Adaline Selby, who is probably from the family that enslaved him.

I’m drawing his birth date from a date written next to his age on his Freedman’s Bank record.
