SHERIFF’S ELECTION. A special election for Sheriff of Hinds county took place yesterday. William Jefferson, (colored,) Independent Republican, and Monroe Bell, (colored,) Republican nominee, were the candidates. In this city, Jefferson received a large majority. Whites and colored generally voted for him.
