IMPORTANT FROM OHIO.

MR. EDITOR:- I ask a place for this note in your noble paper, my object being to give the appended call a wide circulation, in and out of the State of Ohio. Your readers will see, by the circular, that a Convention of men of color is to meet on the 3d of July next, to devise ways and means to canvass our State, and as your paper has a large circulation in our State, and is as widely known as any journal, not only in this State, but in all the States, I hope you will favor us by publishing it.

I am yours truly,
D. JENKINS.
Columbus, Ohio, May 15, 1867.

CIRCULAR.

To the Colored Citizens of Ohio:

At a meeting of colored citizens, held in this city, April 8th, the undersigned were appointed a committee to take the necessary steps to call a State Convention of Colored Men, to devise the best means by which we can most effectually assist in having the word “white” stricken from the Constitution of our State.

The time of holding the Convention has been changed to Tuesday, July 3d.

We have received letters from prominent men in various parts of the State endorsing our action.

We hereby request the hearty co-operation of all who feel interested in the ratification of the Constitutional Amendment and enfranchisement of the colored men of Ohio.

We sincerely hope you will interest yourself in holding meetings, and use your influence to send the best men in your county as delegates.

Respectfully,
