Enlisted with Company C of the 6th Regiment of U.S. Colored Heavy Artillery in September 1863, later deserted. Election clerk (1871) and inspector (1872) for Helm’s Precinct of Adams County District 1. Filed an application to teach in October 1872. Consistently listed on the 1870-1920 censuses as a Baptist minister living in Natchez with wife Ellen. He lived at 33 Minor Street.

He is almost certainly the Willis Davis who died in Adams County in 1923, according to the state death certificate index.
