William W. Hence

William W. Hence (Adams County)

State House: 1880-1882

Born: July 1835 in Mississippi
Died: c. 1924 in Adams County, MS

Fought with the 58th Regiment of U.S. Colored Troops. Also served as Justice of the Peace in Adams County from 1871-1883. Hence is listed with wife Priscilla on the 1870, 1880, and 1900 census, and he appears as a widower on the 1910 and 1920 census. His occupation on every census is given as “farmer,” though 1870 records “magistrate & farmer.”

Betsy Hence (his daughter-in-law) and Oliver Hence (his grandson, 1902-1969) were granted probate on the estate on March 5, 1924.
