James S. Simmons

James S. Simmons (Issaquena/Washington Counties)

State House: 1874-1875, 1884

Born: October 1847 in Adams County, MS

Son of Jim and Nancy Simmons. Listed in Issaquena County with his parents and working as a farm laborer on the 1870 census. Living with wife Susan and children on the 1880 census, occupation “Co Assessor.” He and his family were living in Vicksburg in 1900 and 1910, and he was working as a carpenter.

There are death certificates for two men named James Simmons in Warren County, one who died in 1914 and one who died in 1918.
