George Washington

George Washington (Carroll County)

State House: 1874-1875

There are several black men named George Washington on the 1870 census in Carroll County: a 54-year-old from Georgia, a 45-year-old from Virginia, a 29-year-old from Mississippi, and a 20-year-old from Mississippi. Judging by the photograph, he was probably one of the two older men. I haven’t been able to find enough information about any of these George Washingtons to determine which one was the legislator.
