F. Dora Wade

F. Dora Wade (Yazoo County)

State House: 1871-1873

Born: c. 1845 in Ohio

Appointed marshal of Yazoo City in 1870. Listed on the 1870 census in Yazoo County, working as a teacher. He began serving in the legislature in 1871 to fill a vacancy in an unexpired term.

After 1875, I believe Wade relocated to Colorado. There is a Dorster Wade on the 1880 census in Leadville, CO, born in Ohio about 1844, occupation “Ex S Senator.” This newspaper article from 1880 includes the speech of a “colored delegate” named F. D. Wade at the Colorado Democratic Convention, which was held in Leadville that year. The speaker mentions being in Ohio during the war. There is an 1881 land record for a Flavius D. Wade in Denver, and an 1882 Denver city directory lists Flavius D. Wade working as a barber. I have found no other records for either a Dorster Wade or a Flavius Wade, nor can I positively locate Colorado’s and/or Mississippi’s F. D. Wade after 1882.
