A GOOD MOVE.<\/p>\n

GREENVILLE, MISS., April 21, 1890.<\/p>\n

We, the undersigned colored citizens, have noted with deep interest the general movement on the part of our white fellow citizens to secure the assistance of the U. S. Government in the improvement of the Mississippi River and the protection of the great body of alluvial lands contiguous to it from annual inundations.<\/p>\n

Fully recognizing the urgent necessity of such aid, and realizing that the protection of said lands are as of as much vital importance to our people as to our white fellow citizens; we hereby unite in a call for a general meeting of representative colored men from all the territory adjacent to the Mississippi River and subject to inundation therefrom, to meet in the City of Greenville on Friday, the 9th day of May, 1890, and take such action as may be deemed best.<\/p>\n

We recommend that such consultation be had by our leading men as will assure the attendance of at least one delegate from each Supervisor’s District in the various counties interested.<\/p>\n
