Ham Carter.

The well-known colored politician Ham Carter has been in Greenville for a couple of weeks, and his presence seems to have had a marked effect on local politics. Before his arrival, notwithstanding a long existing defection in the Radical ring, the Reverend Brigadier-General and Senator Wm. Gray, was the favorite in the field for Sheriff at big odds; Carter, however, assailed him in caucus and camp, and now, as we learn, the Honorable William is without a backer. No small job that, even for Ham Carter. We doubt if his mission was all on account of local politics. [Greenville Times.
