According to the 1876 Mississippi House Journal, he was a teacher. He was listed as a farmer with wife Salena and children on the 1900 census in Issaquena County and on the 1880 and 1910 census in Sharkey County.
Salena, widowed, was living with daughter Elizabeth in Elmira, NY on the 1940 census, and she died in that city on February 2, 1948.
