JACKSON.
Representatives of the Colored Race in the Legislature – Excitement Over the Municipal Election.
[SPECIAL TO THE PICAYUNE.]
JACKSON, MISS., Jan. 4. – Senator Gayles, of the Ninth Senatorial District; Representatives Perry Peyton, of Bolivar, and Gilbert Horton, of Washington, all colored, arrived in the city last night. In a talk with them your correspondent finds that they are all strong levee men. They all speak with great earnestness about the reclamation of the rich delta from the overflow and ruin. In the bottom, Democrats and Republicans alike are all levee men.
This is Senator Gayle’s third term, and he served six years in the House. This is Representatives Horton and Peyton’s first term. They are all intelligent men and will work with their Democratic colleagues for the interest of the delta, which will occupy much of the attention of the Legislature, which meets next Tuesday.
