John D. Webster

John D. Webster (Washington County)

State House: 1872-1873

Born: c. 1841 in Virginia
Died: December 27, 1887 in Greenville, MS

Lawyer and building contractor. At the 1877 convention of the state Democratic party, his name was placed into nominations to be their candidate for Secretary of State, and he received the second highest number of votes. Listed on the 1880 census in Greenville with wife Addie and daughters Blanchie and Bessie.

“He is a native of Virginia; came into the State in 1869; was appointed Clerk of the Circuit Court of Washington county by Governor Alcorn, and was elected to the Legislature in 1871. He served in the 54th Massachusetts regiment during the war, and was quarter-master sergeant. He is a member of the bar of Washington county.”
