Columbus Miss June 28th 1871
To His Exellency J L Alcorn.
Much esteemed & respected sir, I wrote you a few days ago to solicit your influence in getting me treasurer-ship of the Alcorn University, not being awair at that time that you had to appoint the treasurer, but I have since examined the law to find it so. & now sir with all that respect that is due you the Executive of the state: & in that humbleness that becomes me, as one of your subject, in view of all that is known to us boath, I ask that that honour be confured upon me at your hand, & your humble petitioner will ever pray &c. As I said in my forme letter I ask this favour because all the other officers is on the other side of the State
