Rankin County Members.

Editor Greenville Times:

You were misled by an editorial in the last Brandon Republican in stating that Rankin county would be represented in the next Legislature by two colored Republicans. This is a mistake; Maj. L. H. Babb, who leads the ticket, was a gallant Confederate soldier, and bears upon his face the indelible mark made by a fragment of a shell. He is an educated gentleman and a forcible fluent speaker, and would be a useful member if his political opinions were not so badly and abominably mixed. We hope when he takes his seat and consults with many conservative and patriotic members, he will modify them and become more liberal, prudent and discreet. He is superior in national and acquired ability to the majority of those who are generally selected east of Pearl river.

The other member, H. L. Jackson, is a colored Republican and harmless.
