Conservative Convention.

On Monday, the 9th inst., a large and enthusiastic meeting of the Conservative party of Panola county was held at Sardis. Col. Hugh Crozier was called to the chair, and J. A. Polk requested to act as Secretary.

The object of the meeting having been explained in the call, to nominate candidates to fill vacancies, occasioned by the resignation of Messrs. Bryant and Breckenridge, and for other purposes.

Col. W. B. Johnson and Guilford Vaughan, (colored), were called for and made speeches, after which the committee having reported the nominations, which were approved by the house, Freeman Randolph was called for and responded in an eloquent address accepting the nomination, after which several short speeches were made, by Col. J. D. Ashmore, C. B. Vance and others.
