Hinds County Gazette, March 20, 1872

We notice that all the Representatives, (Bell, Johnson, Fisher and Reese,) from Hinds county in the Legislature, voted for the “civil rights bill” which passed the House last week. We know Bell and Johnson very well, and although they voted themselves the right to be seated at the same table with the whites at the hotels, we give them credit for having too much good sense to attempt practically to exercise that right.
